Lifestyle Changes Can Curb Climate Change - UN IPCC Report
“Please eat less meat - meat is a very carbon intensive commodity. Cycling or walking instead of jumping in a car to go 500 meters. Purchase only what you really need instead of buying something just because it’s there.” - Dr. Pachauri, Chairman of Nobel Peace Prize-Winning UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
Tzu Chi Foundation has devoted to its mission in environmental protection for over 20 years. Based on our experiences, combined with UN IPCC’s latest advocacy, we ask you to join us in the “3 Green Acts.”
Act 1: Mindful Eating
1. Try vegetarianism: our diet contributes to global warming more than our cars 2. Buy low carbon food: buy seasonal/local, not air-freighted, less packaged food 3. Reduce food waste: proper portion size, donate food, composting
Act 2: Eco-Friendly Living
1. Bike or take public transit: walk short distance, bike to work, carpool more 2. Conserve water and electricity: pollute less, use energy-efficient appliances 3. Reduce paper consumption: print double-sided, use scrap paper for notes
Act 3: Frugal Living
1. Buy only what you need: shop smart, frugal fashion is chic 2. Extend life cycle of a product: donate to and buy from thrift store 3. Stop using disposable products: use reusable utensil, bring your own bags For more information: http://greenacts.us.tzuchi.org/
A lot of good close games the first day of March Madness already... #2 Memphis survived a close upset by #15 Cal State Northridge (I did not hear about this school before too!). Of the 4 games going on right now, #3 Villanova is trying to catch up with #14 American Univ. (I also never heard about this school) with around 5min to go in first half, #10 Michigan is having the upper hand against #7 Clemson, #4 Gonzaga vs #13 Akron game is just two points apart, #10 Minnesota and #7 Texas have taken turns leading the game every time the score refreshed... Either the NCAA commissioner did a very bad job in seeding these schools, or the talents and skills each school possesses are so close that make the whole thing extremely exciting! Anyway, for those of you who don't know which teams to support, here are 10 teams you can consider:
1. Pittsburgh 2. UCLA 3. Duke 4. UNC 5. Memphis 6. Syracuse 7. Louisville 8. Wake Forest 9. West Virginia 10. Washington
They are my picks for this year's polls. I have not win anything ever since I joined the poll 3 years ago...
Anyone not know about the war of words between Daily Show host Jon Stewart and Mad Money host Jim Cramer? The whole thing is funny! I first knew it when Dave posted the link of the youtube video on facebook, but the youtube video seem to be taken down as it's against the copyright. Anyway, you can watch the full episodes of all these drama on http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/index.jhtml?episodeId=220533 - which I didn't know before! Ever since I cancel my cable I have been missing the daily show! Now I get to watch them online whenever I want! To get the full story, you should really start watching from the March 4th episode. Hope you like it!
